Paul Lagasse speaks about his career

January 20, 2021
7:00 PM EST - 8:30 PM EST

Christ Church
112 Charles St
La Plata, MD 20646

Paul will be speaking to us about how a long-time freelance science writer/editor accidentally stumbled onto his true calling as a community news reporter, and how on Earth his prior experience prepared him for his dream job? And why he isn't a reporter anymore.

Paul Lagasse is a writer and editor specializing in the sciences and the nonprofit sector. He worked full-time as a freelancer, contractor, and consultant for 16 years, and his clients included the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Institute for Defense Analyses, the Office of Science and Technology Policy, and the National Science Foundation. In 2017 he joined the staff of the Maryland Independent, where he covered the county government and environment beats for two and a half years. Like so many other reporters facing tough choices in the brutal local news market, Paul had to cross over to the "Dark Side" and now does public relations for a government contractor. Paul is also a past president of the MWA, co-founded the Baltimore chapter, and edited Pen in Hand for several years.
