Join author M.K. Sholund for a hands-on writing session exploring the power of writing prompts. M.K. will show and tell how using prompts can have beneficial outcomes toward your writing goals, whether they be short stories, other publishable short fiction (like those in MWA’s Pen in Hand), or novels. Prompts can even help with overcoming dreaded writers’ block. Using cues from her debut non-fiction book "150+ Prompts: A Creative Writer’s Journal", M.K. will direct us in writing sprints designed to jump-start our creative juices, followed by time for optional sharing. Open to fiction and non-fiction writers alike—whether you are just starting out or have several publications already under your belt. As authors we all benefit from writing exercises, be they typed on keyboards or scribbled by hand!

M.K. Sholund’s passion for writing was first inspired by reading books in the Berenstain Bears collection and the Babysitters Club series, followed by works of Stephen King. Her love of reading steered M.K. to work at Borders Books, where she was surrounded by all sorts of tempting volumes. After attending Towson State University, she worked as a freelance writer and published articles in trade magazines. M.K. has since transitioned to writing horror and short fiction. She currently serves as the MWA Carroll County Chapter president and lives with her husband and two Cavalier Charles spaniels. Her debut non-fiction book "150+ Prompts: A Creative Writer’s Journal" was released May 9, 2025.
