LoginMWA Quick Notes, November, 2026: Events, Publishing Opportunities, and More!
Greetings, You-Wonderful-Maryland-Writer-You! We have delved into the month of November, a month out of place because it is a month out of history. Its Latin name is “Nine” – like December, the month named “Ten” – but we observe it as our eleventh. Why? Because Julius and Augustus Caesar were rather boastful authoritarians who each craved their own month, which we observe as July and August. Pushing the rest of the calendar back, I suppose, until the end of our year no longer makes sense.
Hmmmm… this seems fitting. For these reasons and the seasons too, I believe November is a month of oddities. Odd panoramas. Odd weather. Odd mornings and evenings. Odd sunrises and sunsets. Dark winter around the corner. Fading summer lingering on. Holiday anticipations yet dragging summer memories. Everything in the middle but moving forward. So much to consider.
Overwhelmed, you might take a long stroll through Maryland's amazing fall colors – I ride my tricycle with my best pal Ben-Dogger running at my side. These experiences set everything in order.
In these moments, I am. Simply being. Here with you all. In this fantastic Association of like-minded daydreamers. All of us fools for the things that could – and should – be. Our hope remains bright despite January’s approach and we are inspired!
