Happy birthday, America, it’s July 2026 and you are 250 years old!
Greetings, Maryland Writers! July is a month of many things simply because there is so much to do! Warm weather, lots of sunshine, and bountiful Maryland landscapes can fill a personal calendar with countless wonderful experiences. Plus, being so close to the center of our planet, Washington DC, we Marylanders have a unique opportunity for making regular visits to all the historic (and futuristic) exhibits on display in our nation’s – and our planet’s – capital city.
So what? How can July 2026 in Maryland impact us writers? That’s an easy answer!
Whether you are a patriot or a basher, endless ideas should come to mind if only because we are living through such historic times. As a lay fan of history, I can attest to this with enthusiasm. Every day is a nail biter – none of us can predict tomorrow based on our experience with yesterday. This uncertainty can breed fear, but it can also inspire.
Take a moment to revel in the joy of this season contrasted with the natural uncertainty of our human condition. Record and then recall these sensations whenever you must describe a populous or nation struggling through the cusp of monumental changes. Then start writing. I can only imagine all the dystopian stories that will pour forth from your agile minds!
This July, celebrate the birth of our nation if you can. Then get ready for the next big jolt – because boilerplate follows:

Support your peers! MWA celebrates local authors in many ways, so take time to enjoy Maryland's authors by supporting our Teen Writers Anthology.
If your profile requires a bit of grooming, tend your Association business via our website. If your membership expires this month, be certain to renew it to continue enjoying all these wonderful resources.
Finally, when you enjoy all that MWA has to offer and you feel someone needs a shout-out, you can always nominate your local Leadership Superstar.
