April showers, May flowers, and greetings from MWA!
The birth stone for May babies is emerald. This lovely gem is clear, green, and shiny brilliant, much like spring in Maryland. If this month were a gaudy t-shirt, I would wear it every day until it turned into June!
By now you’re asking: what does this do for me? Oh, I don’t know… maybe open a window or a door, get outside where life is happening, close your eyes, upraise your face, open your ears, relax your bod, and breathe deeply. What do you hear and feel?
I hear all the joyous sounds of natural chaos and I feel inspired! This month, my professional goal is simple. I intend to update my personal calendar with every bookfair, festival, farmers’ market, and carnival that I can find. Then I plan to go there. If I am lucky – very, very lucky – I might bump into you!
Or maybe you’ll bump into me. Either way, something will probably spill and it will be such a mess!
At the very least, I will certainly attend our annual conference, Brain to Bookshelf 2026 (October 10-11) at the BWI Hilton. First Fridays is always stimulating, a contest entry is certain to rouse your creative ambitions, and our critique groups provide practical feedback as well as a rousing good time for all who attend.
MWA First Friday's Open Mic Night
Support your peers! MWA celebrates local authors in many ways, so take time to enjoy Maryland's authors by supporting our Teen Writers Anthology.
If your profile requires a bit of grooming, tend your Association business via our website. If your membership expires this month, be certain to renew it to continue enjoying all these wonderful resources.
Finally, when you enjoy all that MWA has to offer and you feel someone needs a shout-out, you can always nominate your local Leadership Superstar.
