Belated Greetings, Maryland Writer!
Welcome to March 2026! Spring is afoot, yet snow is in the air. Yesterday, we had sunshine, then sleet, followed by a heavy snow – with thunder – then more sunshine and thirty-knot wind gusts. The Chesapeake Bay, normally a tranquil body of water, was running with whitecaps. Now today – more sunshine! I bet next week things start turning green and then, hallelujah, the blossoms and blooms of spring must follow!
At an MWA event, I once met a young man who used generative AI to create music based on the Atlanta transit system. He gave each bus and train its own voice based on its particular rhythm of stops and runs. I’m not certain he’ll top the charts with this sort of thing, but I still think it’s an excellent business model (musical marketing that uniquely identifies a given product). Perhaps we writers can use nature’s inspiration to do the same thing in words. Imagine the chaos and turmoil of a nation in the throes of this week’s weather, where sleet, snowfall, rain, and wind become the literal forces of politics, society, commerce, or warfare.
Will you tell that story? If so, I wonder who will win?

Support your peers! MWA celebrates local authors in many ways, so take time to enjoy Maryland's authors by supporting our Teen Writers Anthology.
If your profile requires a bit of grooming, tend your Association business via our website. If your membership expires this month, be certain to renew it to continue enjoying all these wonderful resources.
Finally, when you enjoy all that MWA has to offer and you feel someone needs a shout-out, you can always nominate your local Leadership Superstar.
