Greetings, Artful MWA Constituent!
From the office of MWA's Executive Committee President, hello and welcome to March 2025! Springtime in Maryland is a time and place of pure inspiration. If you walk or pedal a few miles along any one of this state's many outstanding public trails I am confident you will find inspiration in all that light and color - or maybe those powerful spring thunderstorms will serve you better - either way, this season inevitably presents something wonderful for everyone!
Next, a couple of public service announcements.
The first is from Stuart Ullman. Save the Date! On Sunday, April 27, 2025, the 18th annual "Kensington Day of the Book Festival" will convene rain or shine in the heart of historic Kensington spanning three blocks of Howard Avenue. Meet authors, poets, and literary and community organizations. The event also includes live music, special guest speakers, poetry readings, cookbook demos, a children’s program, and much more. The festival is open from 11 AM to 4 PM, and Stuart will need volunteers to set up before and take the booth down after, and this is also an excellent opportunity for volunteers to hawk their wares from 10 AM to about 4:30 PM on that day. The second is from The League of Utah Writers. Currently we are exploring collaboration opportunities with them, and they generously offered to pay outstanding Maryland writers who are willing to serve as external judges for their writing contests. To inspire your creative ideations or help you wile away a lovely hour or two, MWA's constituents produce several useful and entertaining resources, to include our outstanding journal, "Pen in Hand", numerous anthologies, and a regular distribution of news and announcements.

If you're looking for something fun to do, MWA provides multiple outlets that are certain to entertain or return valuable feedback. First Fridays is always stimulating, a contest entry is certain to rouse your creative ambitions, and our critique groups provide practical feedback as well as a rousing good time for all who attend.
MWA First Friday's Open Mic Night
Support your peers! MWA celebrates local authors in many ways, so take time to enjoy Maryland's Notable Authors or get involved with our great state's next generation of poets and novelists by supporting our Teen Writers Anthology.
If your profile requires a bit of grooming, tend your Association business via our website. If your membership expires this month, be certain to renew it to continue enjoying all these wonderful resources.
Finally, when you enjoy all that MWA has to offer and you feel someone needs a shout-out, you can always nominate your local Leadership Superstar.
